To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the sinking of HMS Naiad in 1942, this year’s reunion was held on her Tyneside birthplace, at the Copthorne Newcastle, on Friday 13th October, and concluded on Sunday 15th October.

Located in the heart of the city, Copthorne Hotel Newcastle was the perfect base from which to explore. Steps away are interesting shops and restaurants. Art lovers and football fans were able to stroll to the Theatre Royal and Newcastle United Football Club.  From your room, we enjoyed views of the famous bridges over the river.

what events were planned?
Meet and Greet | Friday Evening
Attendees arrived Friday afternoon with an informal meet-and-greet hosted at The Quayside.

The AGM | Saturday Morning
After breakfast, the Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday morning and a gala dinner the same evening. All attended the AGM and the association were particularly happy to see newer attendees take part.  The meeting discussed the following year’s reunion and the current state of the association.  We pride ourselves in being relatively informal so a healthy debate was normal. There was a book to sign and association memorabilia to buy.

Sightseeing | Saturday Afternoon
Once the AGM was concluded attendees gather at around 11:00hrs for a visit to the local area.  Some attended the Newcastle Falcons rugby match whilst others sampled the hospitality of the local bars and pubs.

Gala Dinner | Saturday Evening
This year was different from previous years in that we used the HMS Calliope Wardroom for our Saturday night Gala Dinner (19:00-midnight). In line with the protocol adhered to on our previous reunion in Devonport (HMS Drake) we will be required to submit all attendees names to allow main gate access.  Drinks at the bar were relatively inexpensive  and the chef - who has over 16 years experience in Calliope wardroom - provided excellent fare.

Farewell | Sunday Morning
After breakfast attendees set off homeward bound.  There was no formal gathering on Sunday but many of us had  shared journeys home so gathered before heading towards the train or coach station; or our cars.

how much did it cost?
