The 2019 event was held in Hull on the weekend of 11th October.  Association Secretary, John Ross, visited the city in early 2019 to arrange accommodation and confirmed the attendees and venue at The Royal Hotel Hull on Ferensway.

The hotel is close the Hull railway station, located centrally and within easy reach of the city centre.  B&B accomodation was as per usual for the Friday & Saturday departing on the Sunday morning. The Saturday evening Gala Dinner were also be held in the hotel. Dress code for dinner was jacket and tie.

what events were planned planned?

Meet and Greet | Friday Evening
Attendees start arriving Friday afternoon for an informal meet-and-greet.

The AGM | Saturday Morning
At 11:00hrs we held our AGM. Main topic being where to hold next year’s reunion, but we also discussed the chairman’s previous suggestion that we should be able to help a member who cannot come to our the reunion if they have fallen on hard times. To avoid any misunderstandings some guidelines were proposed that the Chairman and Treasurer should follow when considering such a request. This means that when using the association’s money we are transparent in our approach.

Events | Saturday Afternoon
Once the AGM was concluded attendees were free to visit the local area. Maps were  available in the hotel. The Hull Fair was on so if anyone wanted a ride on the dodgems or the helter-skelter that would was worth a shout. The old quarter had some lovely pubs; and The Deep is a massive aquarium complex and definitely worth a visit.

Hull has a variety of sea fairing themed attractions ranging from aquariam to the Maritime Museum. There are loads of bars and restaurants as well as a micro gin distillery and brewery (See below). There is also a pub called The Minerva which is on the way to and from The Deep.

Hotham’s Gin School in the gorgeous setting of Hepworth’s Arcade, in Hull’s Old Town, offers master-classes in one of the most popular drinks of the moment. The school and micro distillery opened in summer 2018.

This year the dinner was hosted in the same hotel at 19:30hrs.  We met in the bar at 19:00hrs. Dress code was smart, so suit, jacket, trousers and tie.

After breakfast attendees set off homeward bound.  There was no formal gathering on Sunday but many of us had  shared journeys home so we gathered before heading towards the airport, train or coach station; or our cars.
