HMS NAIAD Reunion 2008

Following a lot of interest for a NAIAD reunion, we can now announce a firm date for October/November this year. The event will be open to partners & friends and is the first of it's kind for HMS NAIAD. Should it prove successful, we can hopefully hold similar events every 2 years. The Queens Hotel has been chosen over the Union Jack Club in London for many reasons, but mainly cost, the excellent facilities offered by the venue and the proximity of local attractions with a Naval theme. The Hotel itself has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and all rooms have been finished to a high standard.

To visit the Hotel's website click here >> Arrangements are already in hand, having been organised by the sites new Social Secretary - Paul Gower, contact details below.

If you're interested in attending, please contact Paul who can assist with any questions you may have and arrange your booking. The Hotel has requested an initial deposit and we shall need full numbers approx 6 weeks before, with the full balance payable 3 weeks prior to the event. To attend we will ask for an initial deposit of £25.00 per person, for either the full weekend, or just the evening socials/dinners.

Proposed Itinerary:

  • Arrive Friday - Evening Meal & optional Hawaiian Shirt/Dress Night (see footnote).

  • Saturday - Breakfast (it is anticipated day trips/events will be organised for those interested, nearer the date).

  • Saturday Evening - Gala 5 Course Dinner, which includes disco/raffle and hopefully some wine on the table, which is under negotiation.
    Dress: Smart casual/lounge suit/evening dress.

  • Sunday - Breakfast / Check out

En-suite Accommodation Friday - Sunday, inc meals as above.

Total price is £150 per person for the weekend.
If you just wish to attend the social functions and don't require accommodation, the cost is £59.00 for the weekend.

The Hotel is ideally situated being 21 miles from Southampton Airport, just over a mile from Portsmouth Railway Station, two miles from the Isle of Wight ferry terminal and less than half a mile from the hovercraft terminal. Portsmouth and Southsea have good motorway access, via the M27 & M275. It's also a short walk to the seafront and Naval Dockyard. The Queen's Hotel has an excellent restaurant, lounge bar and 24 hour room service, with ample free parking on-site.

Note.
Hawaiian Shirt/Dress Night - not quite as silly as it sounds and is optional. It does however serve a number of purposes: It takes away the possible dilemma of people trying to decide what to wear the first night, because of not knowing the rest of the group or what they will be wearing. It's also an easy way of knowing who is there for the Reunion, without having to wear a badge. Finally and most importantly, it's a great ice-breaker and easy way for people to start the banter!
