Privacy Policy updated 28.04.2008
25th April 2008
Apologies to anyone that made entries
to the Visitors Book in the last few weeks, as there has been a
longer than usual delay in uploading the entries. I have been
working away from home recently and have had no time to work on the
website - normal service should be resumed for now. Also, the new
site will be delayed for sometime, due to new work commitments as I
have recently changed jobs. The website will be staying in the UK
with PulseWeb Hosting for the next 12 months and I have been assured
their interruption of service problems have been addressed.
Website unavailable - Saturday
26th April 2008
Apologies to anyone trying to access
the site on Saturday 16th April, during 0600 & 1700 hours. We
suffered an interruption of service during that time due to problems
at
Pulse Web Hosting. Their servers
were down and there was no access to the site, or even Pulse Web's
own website - not a very good advert for a web host provider! We
have no idea what happened and there is no explanation from the
company. Our contract expires on 16th June 2008, but we should be
moving to a US provider before then, despite being paid up till
June. Again, please accept our apologies, but this is something
beyond the control of the webmaster.

| Work is underway on Version 5.0 of
the website, which will be the last major upgrade for at least a year. Some more new content has been submitted recently and
thanks to all that have forwarded items for inclusion in the site -
projected completion will be around June/July 2008, but will depend on the
move to the US and may require some downtime during the transition. The aim of the upgraded site is to provide as much
information as possible to visitors, with minimal moderation by the
webmaster.
Update:
The website has
recently been suffering some downtime errors (see below), due to
interruptions of service from the Host server - apologies for this, but it's
beyond the sites control. We are not happy with this, so will be
moving to a hopefully new permanent home in the US, where
reliability is more dependable. The sites functionality can also be
increased at a lower cost than equivalent UK web hosts. The main
thing we wish to include is the site's own Forum, so members can
interact independently of the webmaster. This should be especially
useful on the run up to the Reunion. The forum will be a feature
that allows anyone to browse the content, but you will need to sign
up to post to the message boards - the service will also be free,
unlike some other forces forums. If you are not a regular
member/browser of internet forums, you can take a look at a popular
site for Pink Floyd music fans, to give you an idea of how a forum
works -
www.notaussiefloyd.com. Naiad's
webmaster is a regular poster at this forum and the proposed format
will be similar in design and principle.
The guestbook may also
be moved to
Bravenet, who have recently
upgraded their service and now provide an embeddable book, so it can
be designed to match the rest of the site. This will
reduce the amount of input required by the webmaster and visitors
will be able to post entries a lot faster. However, this will be
trialled first to see if it's feasible. The main concerns are 'spam'
entries and the safe retention of data.
New site content:
The Forum will be the main addition,
but we have some more photographs of HMS
NAIAD to include in the gallery together with Ship's Company lists
from various dedication ceremonies. Information from the Queens
Silver Jubilee in 1977 and some
logs kept by a member of the ships flight in 1981-1982. Of
particular note will be material provided
courtesy of the Navy News, from when HMS NAIAD was sunk as a trials
ship. There are other
miscellaneous items, which should prove of interest to visitors.

| Site Uptime:
Uptime over the last few days has
dropped to the low 90's percentage wise (66.7% in the last 24 hrs), which is very poor
service. You can check this anytime yourself, by clicking the Uptime button on
the front page (located at the bottom left of the frame). This
unreliability has confirmed the need to move to a more dependable
hosting service. The United States is a world leader in web hosting
and with very tough competition their prices are comparable to the
UK, but they offer a more feature rich service and proven
reliability. I would rather host in the UK, but cost is a major
factor and the level of service here does not compare to that
provided in the US for similar costs.
