Webmaster details:
All questions should be
addressed to the Naiad Webmaster.

The HMS NAIAD website
was first created in Oct 2000 and is a work in progress. It's currently being
re-developed and this is now Version 4.1 of the site, with Version 5.0 due for
completion June/July 2008
The Naiad Webmaster>>
Website Creation:
The initial idea
followed a surprise letter from Mike Cresser, an old NAIAD messmate who
managed to locate me, together with some other members of 3MP
Mess. A small reunion followed in 2000 together with the posting of
a very basic website. This was little more than a visitor's book
and front page. Not long after, I left the country for 3½ years
and the site had to fend for itself. When I returned I was surprised
to find around 40 entries in the visitor's book and over 1,000 recorded
visits logged on the homepage. This prompted a re-think and the site
received a modest update together with the registration of the
domain name hmsnaiad.co.uk. Following this update it was again left
dormant for around 3 years and the rights to hmsnaiad.co.uk expired,
together with any associated email addresses. This period also
saw the demise of the first visitor's book in 2005, as the hosting company
changed their administration procedures and access to the data was withdrawn.
(update
14.01.08 - this data has now been recovered).
The domain hmsnaiad.co.uk
has now been registered for a further 2 years and the Webmaster has sole rights of ownership. The
financial cost of running the site is slowly rising and when
active takes a significant amount of time to maintain, especially the page design.
Should it continue to grow, we may have to rethink and seek
some kind of sponsorship or modest donation scheme from members. The site however will now
be allowed to develop as originally intended.
How the site runs:
Presently, the Webmaster is the
sole administrator and owner of the rights to www.hmsnaiad.co.uk.
The site content has moved from its former free provider (Yahoo) to a dedicated server, hosted by
Pulse
Web Hosting. This has many
advantages, but does mean the site is no longer published at no cost. The NAIAD
Members page has been re-designed and now has a private 'members only'
area, requiring a User ID and password, to protect information and
email addresses. The visitor's book is controlled exclusively by the webmaster,
with all entries subject to screening prior to addition. This will
future proof the information and ensure all new data is backed up,
avoiding loss of one of the sites best asset's - it also
prevents spurious entries. It is however a manual process, so there will always
be a
delay (sometimes lengthy) before any entries 'go live'.
I hope people will find
the website useful and support it's continued growth.
